Pauline Hanson Attacks Squirrels as Wheels Fall off One Nation Machine

Monday 29 March, 1999

Pauline Hanson, leader of Australia's troubled One Nation Party, fixated on Squirrels as her latest target in an attempt to rally her troops.

"Squirrels have their own culture and religion, form ghettos and do not assimilate. Of course, I will be called specist but, if I can invite whom I want into my home, then I should have the right to have a say in who comes into my country," Ms Hanson said after opening the party meeting with an acoustic rendition of her hit song 'MMMBop'.

Ms Hanson's position puts her at odds with the Australian National Party who expressed interest in the idea of introducing Squirrels. Said National Party leader Tim Fischer, "Maybe when the entire country is overrun with the little varmints, they'll give us our guns back. Bring 'em on!"

"If", responded Stan Squirrel, chairsquirrel of the SFA, "and when Australia introduces Squirrels, it will be on the Squirrel's terms. Squirrels will not be dictated to by boneheads whose only goals are furthering their own interests. If these are the attitudes we will encounter when we arrive, it makes us wonder why we want to go there at all. Specism is alive and well in Australia."
