SFA Blocks Move By AQIS To Categorize Squirrels As Rodents Tuesday 16 March, 1999 SFA sympathizers in the Australian Senate today blocked a bill that would have categorized Squirrels as rodents. The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) has no official policy on Squirrels. Categorizing Squirrels as rodents would have meant that policies applying to rats and mice would also apply to Squirrels. Rallying to the Squirrel's defense, opposition leader Mr. Kim Beazley said, "Guinea Pigs have their own category, so should Squirrels. Nobody would categorize a Guinea Pig as a dirty rat, why do it to Squirrels?" After the Senators were woken up and a vote taken, the bill was soundly defeated by 4 votes. Stan Squirrel, chairsquirrel of the SFA, hailed the outcome as a victory for common sense. "I don't know anyone who would rather have rats than Squirrels," he proclaimed. "Perhaps those rats down at AQIS wanted to improve their standing by comparing themselves to Squirrels. Well the Australian people aren't fooled, a rat remains a rat."
