USA Today Throws Weight Behind SFA Campaign Thursday 6 May, 1999 National newspaper, USA Today, showed support for Squirrels For Australia by naming the SFA website "Hot Site of the Day" for May 6. The SFA website recorded the most hits since it's inception in March 1999, with dozens of supporting emails received and a flood of new members signing up. There was a real buzz in the air at the SFA's Campaign headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan. "The phone has been ringing off the hook," said Stan Squirrel, spokesquirrel for the SFA. "A huge groundswell of support has risen from the masses. SFA is definitely on the map! Donations are flooding in from all over the world." Mr. Squirrel dismissed a growing amount of negative opinion, saying, "Success like ours will always bring out the crackpots, both for and against. We must be vigilant to stay focused on our campaign and not be distracted by false prophets or doomsayers." The support being given to the SFA is placing real pressure on the Australian Government to enter into negotiations to discuss the merits of the Squirrel's introduction to Australia, and how it might best be achieved.
